Graduate Vet Jobs - Common Interview Questions by Emma Reilly

 |  Veterinary Resources

With only the last few months of my veterinary course to go, I am now seriously looking into what kind of job I want and working away at my CV. Through looking at different graduate schemes, speaking to vets, other students and attending a mock interview evening, I have gathered a series of common interview questions that should be useful for preparing for the interview that could lead to the start of your veterinary career! Talking about cases you have seen or times in your life where you have used skills that are important to the veterinarian seem to be a common theme so thinking of a few cases beforehand will help to stop your mind going blank on that big important day!

  1. Imagine that you are running very behind on your consultations and have a waiting room full of people. How would you deal with this?
  2. Describe a time that you were asked to carry out a task that you were unfamiliar with and how you dealt with it.
  3. What is your proudest achievement?
  4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
  5. How much do you think you should be making for the veterinary practice in order to be profitable to them?
  6. You are called out to a horse with colic. What would you do?
  7. Have you ever seen a vet deal with a case different to how you would? How would you have dealt with it?
  8. A client brings in a cat with some pink frothy material coming from its mouth. List some differential causes and then describe how you would work up this case.
  9. How do you deal with stress?
  10. Why do you want to work for us?
